Courtney has a wonderful rapport with people of all ages, especially children. His ability to connect with his students and his talent at teaching simple concepts, as well as more advanced topics, are both truly superior.
- Qun Li (Director of Elective Programs at Northwest Chinese School - Kirkland, WA)
Mr. James has taught mathematics at NWCS (Northwest Chinese School) for several years, and has coached our teams in the American Mathematics Competitions (AMC), Washington State Math Competition, Math Is Cool competition, and Math Olympiad competitions to high-ranking finishes. I can honestly say that it is his influence and dedication that have achieved this success. Due to his accomplishments, he received the 2005 Edyth May Sliffe Award for Distinguished Junior High/Middle School Mathematics Teaching from the Mathematical Association of America (MAA).
I find that he is a very capable, knowledgeable and patient teacher. His enthusiasm for mathematics has made some impressive converts by making difficult concepts easy to understand, and he has gained the respect of parents, students, and his fellow teachers as well. My own daughter has benefited greatly from his tutelage.
What I found in his class was a roomful of engaged students, learning math from a very enthusiastic, intelligent, and experienced teacher. The students clearly were very much involved in the activities, and were also clearly learning math very well. Due to the great demand from both students and parents, I have decided to offer this math class again, of course taught by Mr. James.

Courtney James comes with the highest of recommendations. Over the past two years, Courtney has instructed my daughter in algebra and geometry, and prepared her for the Nevada High School Math Proficiency Exam, and the TMCC Math Accuplacer. Her success in these areas is due to his methods of teaching that take the mystery out of math computation to make it real. Courtney has taken his gifted knowledge and combined it with a supportive learning environment to create a program that instills confidence and success. What more can a parent ask for!
Please feel free to contact me to discuss further how MathPerfect has helped my child. You know as a parent, you can pay now, or your child will pay later with less academic success.

Courtney James was my son's high school math teacher and, more recently, has become his private instructor. Mr. James is the teacher you always hope to find for your child. He has that wonderful combination of clear thinking, innovative learning tools, and lots and lots of patience. He somehow can translate the complexities of math into language and symbols that can demystify math for all types of "unique learners." His patience, encouragement, and wealth of knowledge in different subjects benefited my son greatly. The unique combination of his sophisticated math knowledge, ability to relate to adolescent students, nurturing personality, and his flexibility in terms of scheduling make Courtney a topnotch math teacher. We cannot recommend Mr. James highly enough.

Courtney is a wonderful math teacher! My son has enjoyed learning from him so much that he wishes all teachers were like Courtney. He explains things in many different ways for students to think outside-the-box, and encourages and challenges them. He is very patient and makes difficult concepts easy to understand. My son has learned so much from Courtney!

Mr. James,
Thank you so much for working with both of my children this year. It has been very sad to watch our 12 year old go from loving math to hating it because of toxic teachers. We did not think it would be possible for him to love math again but he does! He particularly enjoys the theorems and concepts you help him explore. He has always been one who wants to discuss math much the way a literature student wants to discuss Shakespeare. You are one of the few people we have met who can do this and who enjoys doing it with kids.
Our 7 year old really enjoys her Algebra lessons with you, though she was shocked she was doing Algebra (her brother was very impressed to see you have his little sister working on linear equations). We are impressed with your patience and your understanding that a child does not need to be looking at you to be listening to you.
You may find it funny that the other day our son was telling a story and became sidetracked when he couldn't remember the name of his friend that was with him in the story. His little sister became annoyed and said to him, "How about we let F stand for Friend?" It was quite funny!
Again, thank you for sharing your love of math. Both kids would like to work with you on math this summer. Their reaction when I asked them was "Of course!"
Sincerely,
Sherry Griffin (Reno, NV)
I chose Courtney as my child's teacher based on numerous recommendations from other parents... My personal experience working with Courtney has been very rewarding. I have found that in addition to his expertise in math, Courtney has a wealth of knowledge in various subjects, which he is eager to share with his students. His soft spoken, gentle manner fosters a calming learning environment in the class. His patience and ability to understand the child's point of view allow him to create a positive relationship with the students. Courtney provides encouragement, not criticism, which has helped my daughter build up confidence in her ability to attempt new challenges. My daughter has learned more than just math from Courtney. She has learned to think outside the box, and feels more positive about herself.

Mr. James is a well-known math teacher in our community not only because of his comprehensive knowledge in many areas of math subjects but also because of his unique and artful teaching skill.
- Mingjie Z., Ph.D. (Parent - Seattle, WA)
During my daughter's experience in Mr. James's math class, I found that Mr. James taught in a unique and effective way. He developed his own personal curriculum. The content was comprehensive, in-depth, and really challenged the students to think harder and step beyond the extents of where they thought they could go. Sometimes he used games to teach strategy and critical thinking. The kids loved Mr. James's class... For the past two years, my daughter always returned from his lessons eager about the subject and anticipating the next class... After enrolling in his class, my daughter's math skills have developed quickly, leading her to win a second place trophy in a statewide competition this year... I am very lucky that my daughter has had Mr. James as a math teacher and coach.
